There were no blog posts for weeks, and now two within one week - there is something to be said for vacation time! Here are photos from a couple of daytrips we took this week - both with a railroad theme. On Tuesday we rode Amtrak three whole stops to Emeryville. We live just a few blocks from the Martinez train station, so we see the passenger and freight trains from our porch, and the sound of trains is a regular part of our day. We walk by the train station all the time, and Avena was thrilled to go inside and actually buy a ticket. To top it all off, while we were at the ticket counter, a railroad worker in a hard hat came up and gave her a Thomas the Train booklet. She called it her Thomas Ticket and is still carrying it around. So, we made a miniature three-stop journey, which is actually a really pretty ride along the Carquinez Strait and the San Francisco Bay, we got off and had some Jamaican food (yay, plantains), walked around a bit, and came back home. It was a big hit.
